Giveaway from Fresh Picked Whimsy

When I saw Lori McDonough's art for the first time, it made me happy.
I love her blog.  She is so down to earth, creative, friendly, and real.
I went over to her etsy shop and ordered this print right away for my art room:
(it's one of my favorite quotes ever, and her illustrations are tooooo cute! )

I got it framed, but I'm thinking the frame needs to be painted a bright crazy color.  Lime green maybe?

Lori even illustrates all of her envelopes that go out for her etsy orders.
I am giving her major props for that!

Lucky for you, Lori agreed to do a give-away here!
Any 8 x 10 print that is in her shop...  There are a lot of choices, so run over there and check it out.

To win, all you have to do is leave me comment.
I will pick a winner this Friday.  :)
Thanks Lori, for sharing your creativity.  You are an inspiration!

Fried Avacadoes

If you love avacadoes as much as me, you have to try this recipe.  (I found it here)
Sunday night we made grilled teriayki chicken with mashed potatoes and I decided to try these.
oh. my. word.

Ingredients:
Avocado Fries:
Oil For Frying
2 Avocados
2 Eggs, beaten
1 and 1/3 Cup Bread Crumbs
1 Teaspoon Lemon Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 Teaspoon Lemon Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Cumin
Cilantro Lemon Dipping Sauce:5 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
3 Tablespoons Fresh Cilantro, chopped
Juice from 1/2 of Lemon

In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, lemon pepper, salt and cumin. Set it aside. Cut the avocados in half and then slice them vertically into 4 inch by 1 inch wedges. Set them aside. Heat the vegetable oil to 335 degrees Fahrenheit in a large frying pan, adding enough oil so that the oil is about 3 to four inches deep. Dredge the avocado slices in the breadcrumb mixture, then in the egg mixture, then in the breadcrumb mixture again. Place them in the hot oil and fry them for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon or tongs, and set them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil. Allow them to dry for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a serving tray and serve them immediately with the Cilantro Lemon Dipping Sauce.

For the Cilantro Lemon Dipping Sauce, place the mayonnaise, cilantro, and lemon juice in a blender and mix until smooth and creamy in texture.

YUMMY!

Glittery Clothespins

Reason # 3,897 why I blog:

It's the only place I can share 10 pictures of my glittery clothespins and know someone else will think they look as cool as I do!  :)

p.s.  I've had my Martha Stewart glitters for almost 2 years because I'm so stingey with them.
This is one project I was willing to use them on.  ;)

Of course I had to do it

It's all over pinterest and then Meg did it.
It just plain makes me happy.
The kids loved doing it too!
We used a 16 x 20 canvas, two boxes of crayola crayons, and an embossing gun.

Here's to a colorful weekend!  :)

Scrappy Rainbow Quilt-a-long: Week 5

I used a light gray Kona solid for the sashing (not sure of the name because it was in my stash already) and I'm so pleased with the results.

I think the light gray really makes all the color pop.
I used a standard 1/4" seam when sashing.  If you are making one exactly like mine, here are the cuts:

  • Cut 15 pieces that measure 3" x 12" for in between the blocks
  • Cut 4 pieces that measure 3" x 58" to seperate the rows
  • Cut 2 pieces that measure 3" x 72" for the sides
  • Cut 2 pieces that measure 3" x 60" for the top and bottom
I had plans to have this quilted for me by a local woman who helped me when I was quilting for the new book.  But she is booked up for the next few weeks.  ;(
I'm thinking diagonal straight line quilting using blue painters tape since I'm going to end up doing it myself?
Either way, I'll be quilting it over the weekend.  I can't wait to see the final results!  :)
